Cambio de nombre sin cambio de identidad de género

A family court judge in Río Gallegos issued an exemplary ruling, considering the context of the case he handled. A person asked their parents to change their name, but without changing their gender identity, or at least not as reflected on their national identity document (DNI). Therefore, they registered with their new name in the Family Registry, but the document still states that they are female. It is worth noting that in Argentina, name changes made without a change in gender identity must be reviewed by a family court judge, and if the request is deemed reasonable, the name change is granted. The judge granted the request, not only considering that the person's request was based on a good degree of conceptual maturity, but also citing the Countersexual Manifesto of the Spanish philosopher Paul Preciado and the conceptions of gender held by various Pre-Columbian American cultures. The use of these two sources, neither of which is specifically related to current national events or the trial itself, has become a paradigmatic case demonstrating a certain evolution and maturity within the Judiciary regarding gender issues, at least in the Province of Santa Cruz.
