Jo Beckwith was 13 years old when a horseback riding accident shattered her ankle. Running was off-limits, and the impact between her foot and the ground was too painful, so after years of surgeries were unable to repair it, she was faced with a life-altering decision. At age 27, she decided to amputate her leg below the knee, in the hope of a better life. When a friend gifted her a running blade, running became possible again.
