The Proud Daughter Returns Home Back to giving lectures at the Spiritist Communion, Mayse Braga asks: are we aligned with our spiritual purposes? Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mayse Braga had been away from the in-person meetings where she has been a speaker for 49 years at the Spiritist Communion of Brasília. On the evening of last Saturday (May 7th), Mayse returned to the profession that has accompanied her since she was 16 years old. In the Bezerra de Menezes auditorium, the audience and speaker were able to reunite to reflect together on the progress of the reincarnational purposes that brought us to the earthly plane. “The list of challenges we set for ourselves still awaits us. This is the moment to define, once again, the options for our lives,” reminded Mayse Braga. “I say this primarily to myself,” admitted the speaker who, last December, suffered from a blood infection from which she is still recovering. “I stayed home protecting myself from Covid-19 and still got sick, but from something else,” she said. The pandemic and its consequences According to the speaker, the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic were responsible for a general distancing from our points of positive connection. “Let's not fool ourselves. We begged, in tears, for the opportunity of this existence. We have to ask ourselves: what are we doing that only a true friend of Jesus would do? In these two years of the pandemic, who have you helped?” she asked. Mayse celebrated the arrival of the vaccine. She excitedly recounted that she had received three doses and was ready for the fourth. “I'll take the fourth on Monday and I'll take as many doses as necessary. My arm is ready,” she said. Saddened by the outbreak of yet another war on Earth, the speaker recommended reading the book “The Ballerina of Auschwitz” by Edith Eger. As she bid farewell to the emotional audience, Mayse thanked the caregivers who have been helping her and recounted the last few months of physiotherapy and medical treatments. “I lost the use of my legs, but my physiotherapist always told me I needed more exercise. Try a little harder, take another step,” she advised everyone. SPIRITISM The term "Spiritism" is synonymous with Spiritist Doctrine; however, it is frequently used erroneously to designate any practice of mediumship (communication with Spirits), or confused with Afro-Brazilian cults (Umbanda, Candomblé, among others). When Did It Emerge? It was revealed by Superior Spirits and codified (organized) in 1857 by a French professor known as Allan Kardec. Therefore, it originated in France more than a century ago. Why study it? In John 8:32, Jesus said: "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." To be truly Spiritist – because it is impossible to understand and live such a complex and comprehensive Doctrine without mastering its basic knowledge.
