Less than two weeks before the second round of elections in Colombia, presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella denounced the existence of credible plots to assassinate him. De la Espriella, who won the first round, directly pointed to the same FARC drug cartels responsible for the assassination of Miguel Uribe Turbay last year. "I have intelligence reports that leave no room for doubt. The plan to attack my life remains in place," De la Espriella declared.
