Changes in GZ Curve due Internal Shift of Weights If the weights are shifted internally, new GZ curve can be drawn without recalculating the new GZ. In fact if there is a transverse shift involved the resultant list can be found from the resultant GZ curve. It may be generally said that the shift of weight causes the reduction in the size of the GZ curve, except that the downward shift of weight results in increasing the size of GZ curve. Capt.S.S.Chaudhari is an Indian Merchant Navy Captain with 45 years of experience under his belt including 29 years of teaching and training professionals. He is from ‘1978-79’, T.S. Rajendra batch. He commanded ships from 1990 to 1994, whereafter he said quits to sailing and started his teaching tenure in 1994, at L.B.S College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research. In 1999, he completed Bachelor of General Law from Mumbai University. In LBS, he was connected with most areas of maritime teaching at various levels up to Extra Masters. For several years, he had been in the panel of examinations by MMD, of various competency levels. He has also been a faculty and examiner of the Extra Master’s course since 2006. He was also associated with the examination of B.Sc Nautical Sciences, (Mumbai University). He was Chief Editor of a technical magazine ‘Horizon Ahead’ for over 5 years. He has been the principal of M.M.T.I. Dehradun, from 2014 till 2019. During the 26 years of teaching, he has written several books. Chartwork, Celestial Navigation, Ship Stability, Cargowork, Navaids, Advanced Shipboard Management, Ship Construction (Vol I & Vol II), Legal Knowledge for first mate are to name a few. Capt. Chaudhari believes in sharing his knowledge with the fraternity.
