How to..Modern Pistol Grip-4 Leverage Styles..FIND “YOUR” GRIP!
Discussion about grip. Grip is the one aspect of shooting handguns that everyone can improve. It’s taught so often in ways that only show the tip top of the iceberg! We need to realize that the grip is a fingerprint unique entirely to us. So using my grip won’t maximize your performance. It may better performance but it won’t be to full potential until we master our individual style. There are several key princ that must be in place. Strong hand must be high as possible under the beaver tail and Under the trigger guard. The support side should be high on the pistol, Covering as much as possible, leveraging and creating as much friction as possible. The pistol cannot move in our hands. If the pistol moves in our hands we cannot predictably control the gun. After this set of principles is adhered to the variations in the details are endless. Based on our level of grip strength we need to experiment with what leverages we can use to input pressures on the pistol. This video is to explain alternative leverages to simply squeezing front to back with the strong hand and side to side with the support hand. That doctrine may be fine for some shooters with adequate grip strength and hand size but I need to find ways to make the 5’2” 95 pound female student outshoot the 6’ 220 pound man. It’s that simple. We have to experiment with leverages. It’s called a cheater bar for a reason. Bob Vogel style,Mike Seeklander, Isometric push pull style and the hybrid style are all about adding more pressure and input into the pistol with less effort!!! Self defense shooting is often fast and multiple shots. Recoil control is a staple in the fundamentals of shooting. It’s also impossible to get repeatable performance with an inconsistent grip.
