John Lavery (1856-1941) Paintings - Irish Painter
Sir John Lavery (1856-1941) was an Irish painter best known for his portraits and wartime depictions. He was appointed an official artist in the First World War. However, his health prevented him from travelling to the Western Front. A serious car crash during a Zeppelin bombing raid also kept him from fulfilling this role as a war artist. He remained in Britain and mostly painted boats, aeroplanes and airships. In 1909 Lavery remarried, to Hazel Martyn, an Irish-American known for her beauty and poise. She was depicted in more than 400 of her husband's paintings. I hope you enjoy the video!
