No copyright is sought over the source material, only over the new creative contributions added to the derivative work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The Satyr" is a horror story by the American writer Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961), first published in the July 1931 issue of La Paree Stories magazine, and later reprinted in the 1948 anthology Genius Loci and Other Tales by Arkham House. One of Clark Ashton Smith's best stories, it belongs to the Averoigne cycle, tales set in that fictional region of medieval France, where all sorts of astonishing and, above all, terrifying events occur. It is the shortest story in the Averoigne chronicles, and the only one not to appear in the pages of Weird Tales, probably because the story is centered on a Satyr: an ancient creature of the woods, similar to the god Pan of Greek myths, capable of obscenely infusing the wildest passions of human beings.
