Jaboka Nagaland (Mon District) Unique Culture Of Nagaland | Traverse Satyam
Welcome to Episode 1 of my journey through the remote Konyak villages of Jaboka Village in Nagaland. In this episode, I witnessed something extremely rare, the traditional house construction of a Konyak Angh (King). The Angh is the hereditary chief of the village, and in Jaboka, the king still holds cultural authority over nearly 12 surrounding villages. According to local tradition, the King’s house is rebuilt only once every 15–25 years, making this a true once-in-a-lifetime moment. The Konyak tribe of Mon district is known for its rich warrior history, Head hunting, wood carving traditions, tattoo culture, morungs, log drums, and unique tribal governance system. Even today, the institution of the Angh (King) survives in villages like Jaboka, Longwa, Shangnyu, and Sheanghah. What makes this even more special is that the entire village comes together to build the King’s house using traditional techniques, wood, bamboo, and community, a living example of tribal unity and heritage preserved for generations. Similar Konyak architectural traditions are now being preserved through the new Konyak Heritage Complex in Mon district. Through this vlog, I want to show the hidden side of Northeast India that very few people get to witness.
