This record is from the late 70's and features Super Mazembe as Pichen's backup band. This one was likely recorded in Kenya. I'm told the songs are in sung in Nyanja and it seems to be a patriotic song as numerous places in Zambia are mentioned throughout. The record is a bit rough, but it's still great music. Pichen was pretty prolific, but a lot of his music is hard to find now. Nashil Pichen Kazembe is among the best known and popular artists in Zambian music in the 1970's and 80's and was a highly influential figure in southern African music. Originally from Luapula Province in Zambia, he left Zambia to pursue a music career, first working in Mombasa before moving to Kenya in the early 1960's. He spent a long time in Nairobi, Kenya, where he collaborated with fellow Zambia emigres Peter Tsotsi and Benson Simbeye. As members of Eagles Lupopo Band they sang 'patriotic songs' praising President Kenneth Kaunda and commenting on various social issues. Int he 1970's he collaborated heavily with the Kenyan Super Mazembe Band. Kazemba later produced a good deal of music for other artists and had a string of hits in Zambia as well. He died in 1991.
