#Found | Weather and Drug Trafficking in Arica's Ports 🔴 Ximena Astudillo, journalist from Arica, Chile Astudillo explained that the weather in Arica is preventing fuel ships destined for Bolivia from unloading. She noted that some waves reach up to 8 meters high and that the ports are in poor condition, generating exorbitant costs due to the ships' wait times. "Who is paying for these costs?" she asked, also mentioning that sometimes ships don't unload because payments aren't made and they end up returning. The journalist warned that the necessary dollars to pay for this fuel are not physically available, which exacerbates the situation. In Chile, authorized terminals allow fuel to be transferred to trucks, but there is no storage system to guarantee reserves while the ships continue to arrive. On another note, Astudillo referred to the wood seized with drugs. She clarified that, despite two laboratories dismissing the presence of narcotics, investigations show otherwise: this would be the third discovery since October of last year. In total, 108 tons of wood were sampled using technological and effective techniques, all testing positive. She recalled that in October a container with 700 kg of contaminated wood was found, and that in March the prosecutor's office inspected more shipments with suspicious documentation. Trained dogs and rapid tests were used, confirming the presence of drugs.
