why doesn't SCHOOL teach grammar like THIS | ZERO TO GERMAN 🇩🇪 (DAY 05)

day 5 and one grammar rule just broke my brain in the best way 😅 if you're new here, i'm not learning grammar from a book. i unlock the logic one piece at a time, Cure Dolly style, then go watch real german to find it in the wild today was the last day of stage 1. quick flashcard round first, then the unlock i'd been waiting for so german has this thing where one verb gets "dressed" and the other goes "naked". the dressed verb is the conjugated one, it carries the who and the when, and it sits in second position. the naked verb is the infinitive, no owner, no time, nothing on it, and it drops all the way to the end. so where english says "i can swim well", german says "ich kann gut schwimmen", literally "i can well swim". and the modal in front (kann, muss, will) isn't naming an action at all, its whole job is to add an attitude to it, ability, necessity, desire. that's literally why they're called modal, from mood. that one clicked so hard also: a native german randomly showed up in my chat and helped me fix my "ich bin", and i caught myself understanding actual words in the german songs i play in the shower (langsam, leben). from minus one to that in five days lol come learn with me, basically a new video every day. we go from zero. live Tandem parties every Wed, Fri and Sun, 7 PM Brazil time. come say hi 🙂 timestamps: 0:00 in this video 0:33 another day, last day of stage 1 0:59 flashcard warmup 2:25 flashcards done, unlock time 3:22 the modal bracket: verb two goes to the end 3:44 english "i can swim well" vs german backwards 4:23 one verb naked, one verb dressed (the big one) 6:15 modal = mood = attitude (can, must, want) 6:42 normal verb states a fact, a modal adds a stance 8:41 stage 1 done 9:32 from minus 1 to understanding german songs 10:43 a native german shows up to fix my accent 12:27 wrap + see you tomorrow
