New 2025 Volkswagen California Ocean - Best Practical Camper Van

The New California: The Next Evolution of the Iconic Campervan The latest model is offered in three well-equipped trims: Beach Camper, Coast, and Ocean. It also provides a selection of three powertrains—diesel, petrol, or plug-in hybrid. Prices for the new model start at £63,376. The new California models are built on the Volkswagen Group's cutting-edge modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform, which is also used in the current long-wheelbase version of the Multivan. This advanced architecture brings a host of driver assistance features, enhancing both safety and comfort. Notably, the system includes an "oncoming vehicle braking when turning" function and Travel Assist, which offers semi-automated driving for improved comfort on long journeys. The initial powertrain options feature a 150PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine and a high-torque 204PS 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine for the Coast and Ocean trims. Both engines power the front wheels, come with a standard DSG automatic gearbox, and support a maximum trailer weight of up to 2,000kg. For the first time, the new California will also offer an eHybrid plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 245PS output with a 1.5 TSI petrol engine and an electric motor. This system allows for fully electric driving in daily use while providing extended range capabilities and a maximum trailer weight of up to 1,600kg. Additionally, this is one of the first MQB models from Volkswagen Group to pair the plug-in hybrid system with the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive technology. The new California now comes standard with two sliding side doors, offering increased flexibility for everyday use. The driver's side sliding door makes for easy and comfortable entry and exit, while the second sliding door on the passenger side, along with a completely redesigned kitchen and an external folding table, enhances the campervan's versatility for cooking and outdoor dining. Thanks to the addition of the second sliding door, the new California introduces a three-zone concept for campsites. With a spacious interior and outdoor areas to the left and right of the sliding doors, this campervan seamlessly blends indoor comfort with the beauty of the outdoors, creating a living space that feels truly connected to nature. All models of the new California feature a pop-up roof with a fully openable front window, as well as two additional side windows, all equipped with mosquito nets for added comfort. In the rear, the California replaces a traditional bench seat with removable individual seats, each weighing 24kg. These lightweight seats can be quickly and easily moved or removed to accommodate larger items, offering a practical solution for those who want to switch effortlessly between mobile office mode and leisure activities. The new California also introduces a 5-inch portrait touch display campervan control unit, mounted on the C-pillar on the passenger side. This allows owners to adjust climate controls, operate the auxiliary heater, manage ambient lighting around the roof lining, and more. These features can also be controlled through an in-car app on the infotainment system or via the California app on a smartphone. To keep everyone’s devices charged, the new California offers two 45-watt USB-C ports in the front and four additional USB-C ports in the passenger compartment, ensuring that mobile devices are always powered up. #volkswagen #calfornia #volkswagencalfornia #volkswagencalforniaocean #volkswagencalfornia2025 #volkswagencalforniaphev #2025volkswagencalfornia #volkswagencalforniapowertrain #volkswagencalforniapetrol #volkswagencalforniadiesel #volkswagencalforniapluginhybrid #volkswagencalforniaprice
