The Senate Committee on Basic Education, joint with the committees on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education; Science and Technology; Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation; Justice and Human Rights; and Finance, conducts a public hearing on the proposed School Safety Act. Presided over by Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV, the legislative panel reviews critical measures aiming to overhaul safety, security, and digital well-being across educational institutions. Key agenda items include SBNs 441 and 1582 (Anti-Bullying Act), SBN 627 (Electronic Gadget-Free Schools Act), SBN 1052 (Social Media Responsibility in Educational Institutions Act), SBN 1077 (Internet Safety Education Act), and SBN 1376 (Digital Literacy in Schools Act). The joint committees will also touch upon the mental health landscape through SBN 2133 (Student Guidance Counseling Act) and establish tighter frameworks for sports programs under SBN 349 (Student-Athlete Welfare and Protection Act) following recent manifestations concerning the tragic drowning incidents of Ateneo de Manila University basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
