Jackie McLean 1960
Drummer Bob Pope and Leigh Kamman tag-team a fascinating interview with the well-spoken Jackie McLean during his 2 week gig at Freddie's jazz club in Minneapolis. At the time of this interview Jackie was currently in the Obie winning play "The Connection" in NYC - Tina Brooks was subbing for him while he played the Freddie's gig - and he tells Leigh and Bob a bit about that, as well as sharing his thoughts about other things including his influences, Ornette Coleman and and his friendship with Charlie Parker. The interview ends a little abruptly and the tape is marked #1 so if I find the second part it will be published here.
