雅楽（京都御所）Gagaku, Imperial Japanese Court music and dance

2024年3月20日から3日間に渡り平安雅楽会によって演奏された雅楽の様子です。京都御所の中の広場で春興殿の前に舞台が設置され午前10時と午前11時から約30分間、行われました。雅楽（ががく）は、日本の古典音楽の一つで1200年以上の歴史を持ちます。上代以前から伝わる音楽や舞とアジア大陸の諸国からもたらされた音楽や舞が融合して日本化した芸術です。元は、奈良時代にまで遡ります。10世紀頃の平安時代に王朝貴族たちがまとめ直して大まかな形態が成立し、今日まで伝承されています。奈良時代・平安時代から、雅楽の演奏は宮廷は勿論、寺院や神社において盛んに演奏されました。そして1000年以上、京都・奈良・大阪の専門の演奏家によって伝承され続けました。明治時代に宮内庁式部職楽部が創設され雅楽を伝承しています。最近は、民間の雅楽の演奏団体も増えてきています。演目の一つである蘭陵王は、6世紀の中国に実在した王号で、武勇と共にその類い稀なる美しさで今日まで名を残す武将です。あまりの美貌ゆえ、兵士たちの士気が下がることを恐れ、戦場では仮面を付けて戦ったという伝説が伝えられています。 雅楽（ががく）は、日本の伝統的な音楽の一形態であり、主に宮廷音楽として古代から続いてきました。雅楽は主に宮廷の儀式や祭典、または特別な公式の場で演奏されることがあります。以下に、雅楽についての主な特徴や要素をいくつか紹介します： 楽器：雅楽には様々な楽器が用いられます。代表的なものには、琴（こと）、箏（そう）、笙（しょう）、篳篥（ひちりき）、能管（のうかん）、太鼓（たいこ）などがあります。これらの楽器は、特定の役割を果たし、複雑な合奏を構成します。 曲：雅楽には、「雅楽曲」と呼ばれる特定の曲があります。これらの曲は、儀式や祭典の際に演奏され、その性格に応じて「祭楽」、「雅楽」、「雅楽器楽」などに分類されます。それぞれの曲には、独特の旋律やリズムがあります。 舞：雅楽はしばしば舞台で演奏され、舞踏が含まれます。雅楽舞は、楽器の音楽に合わせて、ゆっくりとした、優雅な動きを特徴とします。これらの舞は、古代の宮廷文化や神話、歴史的な出来事などを表現するために使用されます。 This is a description of the Gagaku performances presented by the Heian Gagaku Kai over three days from March 20th, 2024. A stage was set up in the courtyard of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, in front of the Shunkōden, and performances were held at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM each day, lasting approximately 30 minutes. Gagaku is one of Japan's classical music forms with a history of over 1200 years. It is an art form that combines indigenous music and dance traditions dating back to prehistoric times with music and dance brought from various countries in Asia, resulting in a uniquely Japanese art form. Its origins can be traced back to the Nara period, and its basic structure emerged around the 10th century during the Heian period when aristocrats of the imperial court reorganized it. It has been passed down through generations, flourishing not only at the imperial court but also at temples and shrines during the Nara and Heian periods. For over a thousand years, it has been preserved and transmitted by specialized performers in Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka. In the Meiji period, the Imperial Household Agency's Department of Court Music was established to continue the tradition of Gagaku. Recently, there has been an increase in private Gagaku performance groups. One of the pieces performed, "Ranryō-ō," depicts a historical figure from 6th-century China known for his exceptional beauty and martial prowess. Legend has it that due to his extraordinary beauty, he wore a mask on the battlefield to prevent his soldiers from losing morale. Gagaku is one of the forms of traditional music in Japan and has been practiced primarily as court music since ancient times. It is often performed during court rituals, ceremonies, or special official occasions. Below are some key characteristics and elements of Gagaku: Instruments: Gagaku utilizes a variety of instruments, including the koto, koto, sho, hichiriki, nokan, taiko, and others. These instruments serve specific roles and contribute to the intricate ensemble performances. Pieces: Gagaku consists of specific pieces known as "Gagaku compositions." These pieces are performed during rituals and ceremonies and are classified into categories such as "saibara," "gagaku," and "gagaku instrumental music" depending on their nature. Each piece features unique melodies and rhythms. Dance: Gagaku often includes dance performances. Gagaku dance is characterized by slow, graceful movements synchronized with the music of the instruments. These dances are used to express aspects of ancient court culture, mythology, historical events, and more.
