In this video, we conduct an honest test of a long MC (3 inches, 400 mm) from Nerzhavey and compare it to a short 4-inch version. We make rice vodka from raw grain alcohol using 8 bubble-cap trays with a liquid sampling unit. We examine in detail the temperature regimes in the still (from 85°C to 99°C), the behavior of the bubbling in the diopter when heated with a 3 kW heating element, and draw conclusions: is it worth overpaying for the MC size, how does the column height affect the quality of the product, and is there any point in going too far. Recipe: Rice Vodka (Distillation on MC) Ingredients: Raw grain rice alcohol Water (for diluting the finished product) Step-by-step process (Working on a column with MC): Pour the raw alcohol into the still. Assemble the column: still - MC (multi-tubular column) - 8 bubble-cap trays - liquid extraction unit - dephlegmator. Apply 3 kW to the heating element and wait for boiling (at 85°C, the MC will begin to fill in the still). Self-operation: Let the column run to stabilize the bubbling. Heads extraction: Set drip extraction. Body extraction: Open the extraction unit and set the flow rate to 2 l/hour (at 87-93°C in the still). Control: Monitor the diopter for fogging and the temperature. When the still reaches 98-99°C, tighten the body extraction and then stop. Dilute the resulting product with clean water to drinking strength and let it rest in the glass.
