Building a Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ | Midifying a Pedal Board, Modifying a Keyboard | The Story
This project took around 6 weeks to complete and included midifying the pedalboard using an arduino chip, modifying a keyboard to better suit the setup, building the table and setting up the computer to draw each element together into a working organ. So what is a Hauptwerk organ? It is essentially the homogenisation of multiple MIDI devices (MIDI being a method to transmit and receive musical information) to then emulate the experience of playing an organ, whether it be a 55-stop behemoth from Poland, or a tiny 3-stop chamber organ from Britain. The options are truly endless! The video below shows the process as I learnt new skills such as soldering and the trial and error which occurs with such a project as this. I could have bought a pre-built organ such as a Content or Mixtuur, but there is something to be said for making something from scratch. 🔨
