They can be compared with such Pairs as Herber & Bayer, Belousova & Protopopov, Kilius & Baumler, Rodnina & Ulanov/Zaitsev respectively. Robert Paul was much taller than Barbara Wagner, however this difference in their body height disappeared very quickly after the first couple of base of music, and the audience followed only a perfect harmonious and well-coordinated Pair. They first appeared at the 1955 World Championships where they finished in 5th place. In 1956 they earned the same placement in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A Year later they deserved their first victory: the gold medal in Colorado Springs. It was the beginning of their success: in 1958 in Paris, in 1959 in Colorado Springs and in 1960 in Vancouver. Altogether four gold medals. They took part in two Olympic competitions: in 1956, they were placed 6 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, and in 1960, they won the Olympic gold medal in Squaw Valley. This is the record of a substantial part of their successful Olympic free skating program. They still remained faithful to figure Skating as both of them became coaches, Robert Paul being an excellent choreographer for individual Skaters.
