Joe Fedorchak Polka Medley - Alex Meixner on Munda Button Box Accordion

Hammer Hank’s- Little Slugger’s- Tomazic’s Polka- Joe Fedorchak Polka Medley! As a kid, I always enjoyed the recordings and live performances of Joe Fedorchak and his band. The consistency of the beat and overall sound was so dependable and solid. As I grew musically and got to know the guys, Joe always insisted on K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid), and I might have tested his boundaries a bit. That said, I recently picked out my old Fedorchak vinyl and was surprised at how the sound resonated more with me. The way the musicians played together as a band, really brings a certain ring to these melodies. After listening to the records, I put a few of the button box tunes (that he played on a half chromatic) together for this medley. Hammer Hank’s is from the “By Request” album, written by Dave Guyer. Little Slugger’s and Tomazic’s (which Joe co-wrote with sax player Ed Chrapcynski) are from the “Second Time Around” album. Listening back to the video, my playing isn’t at its cleanest in places, but halfway through it really starts locking to the beat in my head that Carmen White defined on drums. Part of the sound of the original band was that it was loose and tight all at the same time. Most importantly, the musicians played like they meant it.
