8x14 Patina Chorus First Look Snare Demo
We made this patina Chorus 8x14 for our good friend Ryan and wanted to show it off before we sent it. This snare is made to be able to tune low but also works well tuned anywhere from medium to high when needed. I got this one into the medium low range for the video and then added minimal muffling to show off the sounds I liked with it. Our Chorus snare is a black nickel over brass with an 8-lug construction and triple flange hoops. This one has been sanded down to the nickel layer between the brass and the black nickel finish. Then we did the patina process over the nickel and got this cool grey look with accents of true brass from underneath. That matched so well with the brass hardware and turned out just stunning with a satin finish clear lacquer. I put some captions in the video to show where I landed with tuning and what I changed for muffling. This didn't need a lot so I played it open and then added the thin style Evans E-Ring just to take some small overtones out. Tried not to over-process the audio for the video so you can hear what the snare actually sounds like. Hope that helps! This tuning should work just fine on our standard Chorus 8x14 too. The difference in sound between a standard model and the patina model is very very minimal.
