6 Stunning Shade-Loving Perennials and 1 I Regret Buying
Transform your Midwest landscape with these remarkable shade-loving perennials! Perfect for home gardens, urban yards, and foundation plantings. These plants will turn an ordinary shade garden into something amazing! In today's video I am sharing 6 remarkable shade-loving plants and 1 I totally regret buying and why. Learn why these shade-loving ornamental plants are perfect for your Midwest garden. Plus, find out why Heuchera 'Fire Alarm' was a disappointing choice for my shade garden, despite its vibrant foliage promise. Perfect for home gardeners dealing with challenging low-light areas! Here is my list of stunning shade-loving plants that I grow in my own garden. These plants are super stars in my garden and I think they will make a great addition to your shade gardens too. 1. Adiantum pedatum (northern maindenhair fern) 2. Epimedium grandflorum (barrenwort, Bishop's hat) 3. Helleborus x hybridus (hellebores) 4. Corydalis lutea (yellow fringed-leaf bleeding heart) 5. Polygonatum odoratum 'variegatum' (variegated Solomon's seal) 6. Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' (variegated Japanese forest grass) I do not have the right growing conditions for heuchera and lost 15 plants in one season when I tried growing Heuchera 'Fire Alarm'. A costly mistake I will not repeat. Heuchera is a plant that I'll never buy again. My soil is too wet during the winter to support this plant. Such a shame. There are so many beautiful heuchera varieties available for the home gardener. At Garden Moxie, I want to inspire Midwest gardeners to transform their everyday yards into charming retreats. By sharing practical tips, regional insights, and historical garden wisdom, I help you create a garden to enjoy all year long. My garden is located in SE Michigan USA (Zone 6a). I believe that gardens are more than just pretty flowers. Gardens help us escape the stress and pressure of daily life. Building a beautiful home and garden matters. It’s important work.
