Jakobsweg Österreich - Etappe 1: Von Frauenkirchen nach Neusiedl am See

On August 10th, 2022 I'm going from my holiday apartment in Winden am See with the ÖBB via Neusiedl to Frauenkirchen. At first I search unsuccessfully for the beginning of the Way of St. James in Burgenland. A miracle happens in front of the Frauenkirchen basilica and I can begin the journey. After strengthening myself in a cafe, I start walking in the direction of the Halbturn. In the Israelite Cemetery I lay a stone in memory of the dead. Then I walk past a St. Martin's chapel, a resting place at a wayside cross and a Marian column through fields that resemble the Meseta in Spain. Here I also have an encounter with an Austrian pilgrim who tells me about his Camino experiences. Before Halbturn, I treat myself to a snack at a super formidable Spritza refreshment stop. In Halbturn I visit St. Joseph and pay a visit to the castle, where my Bavarian compatriot Sisi awaits me to the sound of a waltz. I continue towards Mönchhof, where I ring the bell in the Kreuzkapelle. In the Gols I see a Csarda, but I don't dance. The path through the vineyards is very beautiful, but very hot with a constant wind. I only see Weiden am See from afar, but I come across a real Burgenland wine cellar. Shortly before Neusiedl I enjoy some beautiful views of Lake Neusiedl. At the end in Neusiedl I treat myself to an alcohol-free Pilgrims's beer and a sweet treat before I take the train home. Unfortunately, this will remain my only stage on the Austrian Way of St. James for the time being! At least it was very beautiful!
