La plus grande guerre de sucession

"The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of a million is a statistic." This phrase, often attributed to Stalin, aptly summarizes his life and reign. He, who stood at the very top of the Soviet power structure, brought about its near-destruction with his death, so central was he to its summit and, paradoxically, also to its foundation. I hope you enjoy the video; it's by far the one that took me the longest to make. I also took some liberties in the writing, as a direct account of Stalin's death couldn't be perfectly accurate due to the bias of the primary sources (particularly Khrushchev's autobiography). The aim of this video is more to provide a simplified explanation of the event and how it unfolded. I also highly recommend the film "The Death of Stalin," which summarizes the situation very well, even if its portrayal isn't entirely accurate. Finally, I would also add that Bulganin was sidelined by Khrushchev also because of his support for the anti-party group. PS: A huge thank you to Camille for her 3D animations, without which the video wouldn't have been possible. The sources will be available in the coming days:
