Chief Bali blast investigator says explosive residue of bomb discovered

Anti-American demonstration outside hotel STORYLINE: A suspect in last month's nightclub bombings in Bali has led police to a house where they found residue of the explosives used, the head of the Indonesian investigation said Friday. Made Mangku Pastika, deputy chief of the criminal investigation division of the Indonesian police, would not say where the house was located but told reporters that a police forensic unit was searching the residence. Pastika made his comments in the Philippines, where he is attending a 19-nation conference on the impact of terrorism on tourism in Southeast Asia. He said police believe six to 10 people were involved in the attack on a nightclub district frequented by foreigners that killed nearly 200 people, and that there were signs of international involvement. Pastika says the fact that Malaysian and Singaporean currencies were allegedly used in this case indicates that it has a link with Malaysia, Singapore and other countries in Southeast Asia. And Pastika said Americans were the real target of the attack. Indonesian officials have said the chief suspect in the attack is Islamic militant group Jemaah Islamiyah, which aims to establish a pan-Islamic state across Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, outside the Manila hotel where the International Conference on anti-Terrorism and Tourism Recovery was being held, a small anti-American demonstration was held.
