Caught In the Wake of Storm Lilian ! Windy Wild Mountain Camp in the Hilleberg Nammatj 2 In this video, I head out to the mountains in the wake of Storm Lilian which was passing to the north east of the UK. I chose a tent which was designed to face extreme weather, the Nammatj 2 by Hilleberg. The forecast conditions were for 55mph gusts the next day, so I wanted to make sure I was prepared. With delta ground anchors for each guy line, I was confident in the ability of the tent. This was a camp of two halves, with lovely blue skies which gradually became congested with scudding cumulus and low level ragged nimbostratus, torn up by the winds in the wake of Storm Lilian which sadly saw a few mountain rescue callouts! Whilst the winds didn't reach the forecast speeds on time, this was a very stormy camp and it is always exciting to experience bad weather from inside a tent. The next day saw brutal winds and driving rain and a very wet end to another enjoyable wild camp. Always camp and hike within your skill limits, be prepared, know how to use a map and compass and let someone know where you are going and when you will be expected back.
