Singapore MRT Ride (EWL) - Changi Airport to Tanah Merah | 24/03/25
Riding the Singapore MRT East-West Line from Changi Airport to Tanah Merah. 24/03/25. Changi Airport MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station in Changi, Singapore. The station is the terminus of the Changi Airport branch of the East–West Line (EWL); it is operated by SMRT Trains and is built in an east–west orientation. The station directly connects to Terminals 2 and 3 of Changi Airport and serves other airport amenities including the retail complex of Jewel. A rail connection to the airport had been planned in the 1980s but these plans were shelved due to the low financial viability of such a branch. With increased air traffic to Changi Airport and the proposed construction of Terminal 3 in 1994, the plans were revived. The current two-station branch line was finalised in 1996 and construction began in 1998. Changi Airport station opened on 8 February 2002 with lower passenger demand than expected, but it continues to provide an alternative transport option to the airport. In May 2019, it was announced Changi Airport station would be incorporated into the Thomson–East Coast Line by 2040 as it extends to the airport's Terminal 5. Designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, Changi Airport station includes elements that cater to airport travellers such as wider faregates at the platforms. The glass atrium walls at the ends of the station support an illuminated bridge that spans the island platform while allowing maximum sunlight into the station. Tanah Merah MRT station (/ˈtɑːnɑː ˌmeɪrɑː, -ˌmɛrɑː/ TAH-nah MAY-rah) is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line (EWL). Located in Bedok, Singapore, the station is along New Upper Changi Road and serves various residential developments, including Casa Merah. It is the terminus of the EWL branch to Changi Airport station. Tentatively named Changi MRT station during its construction, the station opened on 4 November 1989. The station began to serve the Changi Airport branch on 10 January 2001 following the opening of Expo station. In 2024, the station was expanded to four platforms to increase frequency for the Changi Airport branch. On 25 May 2019, it was announced that Tanah Merah station would interchange with the Thomson–East Coast line (TEL) when TEL takes over the Changi Airport branch following its extension to Changi Airport Terminal 5 by 2040. The East–West Line (EWL) is a high-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line operated by SMRT in Singapore, running from Pasir Ris station in the east to Tuas Link station in the west, with an additional branch between Changi Airport and Tanah Merah stations. It is the second Mass Rapid Transit line to be built in Singapore. Coloured green on the rail map, the line serves 35 stations, 8 of which (from Lavender to Tiong Bahru and Changi Airport stations) are underground. At 57.2 kilometres (35.5 mi), the line is the longest on the MRT network. Constructed and opened as part of the North–South Line (NSL) in the early stages of development, the East–West Line was the second rail line formed in Singapore after NSL, with the opening of the eastern extension to Tanah Merah on the EWL in 1989. Nevertheless, both lines use identical signalling equipment and rolling stock. The East–West Line signalling systems have been upgraded along with the North–South Line, with both MRT lines having its signalling fully upgraded, converting it from semi-automatic to fully automatic. #changiairport #singaporechangiairport #singapore #singaporeairport #airport #airporttransportation #airporttrain #airporttransit #transit #train #changi #arrivals #arrival #metro #railway #rail #ubahn #undergroundrailroad #subway #transport #railways #publictransport #transit #rapidtransit #trains #transportation #bahn #bahnhof #subwaystation #publictransportation #mrt #smrt #singaporemrt #singaporemetro #escalator #escalatorsandelevators #mrtstation #mrtride #mrtstations #singapore #tanahmerah #sg #சுரங்கப்பாதை #സബ്വേ #地铁 #keretabawahtanah #metromark #antonv #metrocheck #citycam #IDL3KElevatorEnthusiast #LiftAddict #TransitFan #TRANSLASLionsCityInnovia #bngauw #weikakurai #centralcity #CentralCityMetrosandRailVideos #JordanChua #RMTransit #glitchFan2428 #CityRailways #TransportWeirdGlitchFinder1853 #WKX076 #CityRails #SBS2828S #MRTCamSingapore #SGTrainVlogger #sgplanespottingandtrains #SingaporeTrainsProductions
