Ollantaytambo is a gigantic complex located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, northwest of Cusco, and boasts some of the most precise polygonal megalithic masonry in the world. One of Ollantaytambo's most famous structures is the Temple of the Sun. It features remarkable stonework, including large slabs of pink granite that are intricately carved and precisely aligned. The stone blocks weigh between 50 and 70 tons and are fitted together with such precision that not even a sheet of paper can slip between them. These blocks were brought to Ollantaytambo from another mountain, across the plain and river, and then hauled up the mountain. This precision, along with the scale and transportation of these stone blocks, indicates a very advanced level of technological and engineering sophistication that some believe was not yet within the reach of the Incas.
