DIY Recording Equipment EQP5 passive EQ build
DIY Recording Equipment EQP5 passive EQ build Complete build and test of a EQP5 from DIY Recording Equipment (https://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/). This 500-series equalizer is based off the famed Pultec passive EQ: the EQP-1, which was originally released in 1951 by Pultec (Pulse Techniques). The kit came with all parts, and wasn’t difficult considering the great build guide and tools on the DIYRE website. The PCB is thick, and the pads are through-hole (so no need to solder both sides - bottom only!). All parts were grouped in small baggies (actually wish they had used less bags, it ended up being a lot to throw out), so sorting parts was quick and painless. The hardware was equally robust, and once assembled it feels quite solid. I had one small issue - 1 leg on an IC socket was missing (good change I broke it without noticing). It was a simple fix (I soldered a cutoff lead from a resistor to the socket) so I didn’t bother contacting DIYRE support. I’ve built a few kits from DIYRE (2 Colours, 6 Colour modules, an L2A, and an OLA5), and what they put together is really hard to beat. Just excellent quality through and through. Despite the complexity they’re a good choice even for beginners as the kits are so well put together. I am using this as part of a vocal chain (with a Colour and an OLA5), it’s a great combo with a lot of tonal options.
