Erfolgreiche Wildtierbeobachtung im Schweizerischen Nationalpark in Graubünden
Ibexes, bearded vultures, marmots, and more: Wildlife observation in the Swiss National Park in the Engadin in Graubünden: Hiking in one of the best-protected places in the Alps. Have you ever been to a national park? If so, where? And how did you like it? Feel free to let me know in the comments below. I look forward to your answers. We'll start in Zernez, in southeastern Switzerland. We'll leave the car there and make a quick detour to the National Park Center to borrow binoculars. Hopefully, this will allow us to see the animals much closer. Then we'll head deeper into the national park on foot, fully packed. We'll even spend one night in the park and keep our eyes peeled for the animals, especially the following morning. Numerous species are said to live here. Red deer, chamois, and ibex, as well as marmots, are very common. But with a bit of luck, we might also encounter brown bears, wolves, and lynx. At first, it's a bit cloudy. In light rain, we walk through the forest, reminiscent of a fairytale forest. The trees are gnarled and pristine. Everything grows wildly and tangled. It's obvious from the forest that it's not a commercial forest and isn't being reforested. Incidentally, there are strict trail rules in the Swiss National Park. This is different from, for example, Berchtesgaden National Park or Hohe Tauern National Park. Furthermore, dogs (even on leashes) are prohibited, cycling is prohibited, wild camping is prohibited, and, of course, no plants are taken from the trail. All of this serves to protect nature. One would like to see how the flora and fauna develop in the 170 square kilometers without human interference. On the approximately 3.5-hour hike to the Chamanna Cluozza, where we will spend the night, we pass a crystal-clear stream. Everything seems very idyllic, and I enjoy the hike through the forest coupled with the views of the uninhabited mountains. After a restful night in the rustic mountain hut, we continue the next morning through a sea of fog. We pass a horned skull. Hopefully, we'll see other animals. The destination for the day is the Murtersattel. There, we meet National Park Ranger Hans. Equipped with a telescope, he shows us one animal after another: ibexes, chamois, male deer still gathering before the rutting season, hinds with their young, bearded vultures, and lots of marmots. It's amazing how well-trained his eye is and how we keep seeing new animals. I wasn't expecting that. I thought it would be incredibly difficult and require a lot of patience to even see a single wild animal. But there are plenty of them in the Swiss National Park!
