Induction for Newly Qualified and Registered Pharmacists

THEME Digital Health Interventions in Pharmaceutical Care Delivery - The Role of the Pharmacist SUMMARY This significant event is organized for graduates of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy programmes; upon successful completion of the prescribed and approved academic and practical training in the form of Internship or Housemanship. All inductees must have written and passed the Licensure Examinations conducted by the Pharmacy Council, Ghana. They therefore meet the appropriate training standards for practice as Pharmacists in Ghana. The inductees for this event are six hundred and thirty (630) in number. They are from various accredited training institutions including the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Ghana (UG), Central University (CU), the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), as well as other foreign-trained Pharmacists who sat and passed the Council’s professional qualifying examinations. They will be led to swear the Apothecary Oath. This event will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre as the physical venue. It will be broadcast live on the CES Events Platform and on YouTube (links below) for the benefit of all virtual attendees including parents, guardians, and the general public. The distinguished guest of honour for this event is the Hon. Minister of Health. Hon Kwaku Agyemang Manu. The special guest of honour is the Director of USAID/Ghana Mission. Ms. Kimberly Rosen THE PHARMACY COUNCIL The Pharmacy Council is established by Parts IV & VI of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013, (ACT 857) as a body corporate with perpetual succession. It is governed by a nine (9) member Governing Board with the mandate of securing in the public interest the highest standards in the practice of pharmacy in the country. Vision To guarantee the highest levels of pharmaceutical care. Mission The mission of the Pharmacy Council is to secure the highest level of pharmaceutical care by ensuring competent pharmaceutical care providers who practice with agreed standards and are accessible to the whole population. In addition we shall collaborate with related local agencies and international pharmaceutical organisations to enhance our effectiveness and our contribution on rational drug use in the nation. This mission shall be carried out with dedication, integrity and professionalism. Guiding Philosophy The Pharmacy Council’s guiding philosophy and core values in the discharge of its mandate be to Promote the corporate image of the Council Uphold the dignity, interest and welfare of its clients and members of staff at all times, and Demonstrate highest levels of dedication, professionalism and integrity. The Registrar of the Council is the CEO of the secretariat and sees to the day to day running of secretariat. Functions of the Council The functions of the Council are to: Ensure that the education and training of pharmacists and any other pharmaceutical support staff are carried out at approved educational institutions for efficient pharmacy practice; Set standards for continuous professional development for practitioners and pharmaceutical support staff; Register practitioners; Ensure the equitable and accessible distribution of pharmaceutical premises; Monitor and inspect pharmacy practices where pharmaceutical care is provided; Set and ensure standards for pharmacy practice and professional conduct; Provide guidelines for the education, training, registration, licensing and the practice of all pharmaceutical support staff; Exercise disciplinary powers over pharmacists and any other pharmaceutical support staff; Ensure accreditation for pharmacy programmes in collaboration with appropriate state agencies; Develop a management and administrative structure and systems to provide and efficient mechanism to regulate pharmacy practice; Advice the minister on pharmacy practice and related matters; and Perform any other function that is ancillary to the object of the Council. COUNCIL BOARD MEMBERS The Board consists of nine (9) members The current board is the 6th session.
