Twinkling Lights & Rise | China Forbes | TEDxPortland
China mesmerized the audience with this virtuoso performance singing two songs: Twinkling Lights & Rise. Offering some context between songs she prophetically owns her life journey and proclaims that she is "done with shame." She also pays tribute to late Pink Martini drummer, Derek Rieth, who committed suicide in 2014. China Forbes is example for us all to aspire to. Thank you for being a part of our local Portland community and sharing your talents with the world. With special thanks to the UNIVERSITY OF OREGON for presenting partnership, a world class stage design provided by HENRY V, an incredible legacy bound book provided by PREMIER and to the creative digital craft provided by ENJOY THE WEATHER. All of our Partners and event history can be found TEDxPortland.com In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) China is a Portland treasure and is known around the globe as the longtime lead singer of Pink Martini. After graduating from Harvard in 1992, where she won the Jonathan Levy Prize for acting, Forbes worked as an actress for several years, performing Off-Broadway in New York. She then became a musician and formed a band before moving to Portland to work full-time with Pink Martini. She’s also released two solo albums: Love Handle (1995) and ‘78 (2008). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
