Support us: https://buymeacoffee.com/topsightafrica Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered by South Africa to the south, Namibia to the west, Zambia to the north, and Zimbabwe to the east. With a population of approximately 2.2 million people, Botswana is widely known for its political stability, natural wonders, and strong economy. Its capital city, Gaborone, is also the largest city and home to nearly one-eighth of the country’s population. In this video, we explore 7 fascinating facts about Botswana that many people don’t know—revealing why this Southern African nation stands out. Botswana is home to the Makgadikgadi Pans, the largest salt pans in the world. Located in the northeast of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and southeast of the Okavango Delta, these vast salt flats cover over 30,000 square kilometers—an area comparable to the combined size of Jamaica and Israel. Due to their outstanding natural and ecological value, the Makgadikgadi Pans were designated part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. Botswana is the world’s largest producer of diamonds by value and the second-largest producer by volume, after Russia. In 2016 alone, the country produced an estimated 20.9 million carats of diamonds, with the diamond industry contributing roughly 25% of Botswana’s GDP. Before gaining independence, Botswana was one of the poorest and least developed countries in Africa, with only 12 kilometers of paved roads, a handful of missionary-built hospitals, and an economy heavily dependent on subsistence farming. Just one year after independence, a major diamond deposit was discovered in Orapa, transforming the nation’s future. Today, Botswana is recognized as one of Africa’s most prosperous, stable, and steadily growing economies. 📌 Topics covered: #botswanasafari #botswana #botswanatourism #botswanadiamonds 👉 If you enjoy African geography, country facts, and educational documentaries, like the video, subscribe, and share for more content.
