Guys, I already made a video about this cemetery at the very beginning of my channel. I think it's the most sinister and bizarre cemetery I've ever been to. Here you can find many works of black magic or rituals (voodoo dolls). Guys, the people from the Colony Hospital, who are responsible for the cemetery, can't keep up with cleaning this cemetery. It's a shame, a historical place, and people are destroying it. The historical fact takes us back to the 1920s. Imagine people with a type of disease that until then was highly contagious. This degenerative disease became known as leprosy, but since this word is still a source of embarrassment for its sufferers, it is currently diagnosed under the name Hansen's disease. At the beginning of the last century, infected people suffered prejudice from society and even from their closest family members. To that end, the state government recognized the need to build colony hospitals where infected people would be isolated from regular society, but with all the infrastructure that a city provides: houses, churches, theater, cinema, soccer field, and cemetery. In the case of the Santo Ângelo Colony Hospital, founded in 1928, it became the largest hospital complex for leprosy patients in the state of São Paulo. In its first year of operation, it housed approximately 450 people from the capital of São Paulo. Time passed, medicine evolved, and doctors began to diagnose that leprosy was not an extremely contagious disease. Even so, these colony hospitals continued with the same infrastructure, becoming a socio-cultural element of the cities where they were located. But did this incorporation have repercussions on the mortuary space? That is not the case, at least not at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Cemetery in Mogi das Cruzes; the space outside the walls is completely abandoned. This necropolis was a burial space dedicated almost exclusively to patients of the Santo Ângelo Colony Hospital. It is located about 400 meters from the main entrance of the hospital, now renamed Dr. Arnaldo Pezzutti Cavalcanti Hospital. This necropolis, in a precarious state of preservation, has almost no walls, which have been destroyed by the passage of time. Most of the plaques have no visible identification. The ground has large unevenness and the vegetation consumes a large part of the cemetery, further hindering access. The history of this cemetery is being lost with each passing day, very sad.
