Agra to Fatehpur Sikri Visitor's guide | Adi Kailash in XUV 500 | Part 25

In this episode, we continue our Adi Kailash Road Trip journey from our hotel in Agra towards the historic city of Fatehpur Sikri. Leaving behind the iconic Taj City, we head out in our XUV500 to witness one of the grandest gateways in the world – the majestic Buland Darwaza. Built in 1601 by Mughal Emperor Akbar to celebrate his victory over Gujarat, Buland Darwaza stands approximately 54 meters tall and dominates the skyline of Fatehpur Sikri. As we climbed the massive steps and entered the complex, the architectural brilliance of red sandstone structures and Mughal design left us truly amazed. Inside the complex lies the peaceful Dargah of Salim Chishti, a place filled with faith and centuries-old stories. It took us around 2 hours to explore the Dargah complex. The weather was extremely hot and humid, and since we were already getting late for our onward journey to Chittorgarh, we decided to skip exploring the remaining monuments in detail. There is also a fascinating and lesser-known story connected to this place. It is believed that Goswami Tulsidas, the great devotee of Lord Ram, was once imprisoned in Fatehpur Sikri during Akbar’s reign. According to popular folklore, Akbar had summoned Tulsidas to perform miracles in his court. When Tulsidas humbly refused, saying he was only a devotee and not a magician, he was jailed. During his captivity, it is believed that he composed verses that later became the Hanuman Chalisa. Legend further says that a sudden bout of chaos by monkeys in the Mughal court forced Akbar to release him. Whether history or legend, standing at this historic site truly gives you a different feeling. For those planning to visit, here are some important details: Entry ticket price is ₹50 for Indian citizens and ₹610 for foreign tourists. From the parking area, you need to take an auto to reach the main monument complex. We also booked a guide who explained the history and hidden stories in detail. We paid ₹1500 in total, which included parking, entry tickets, and guide charges. Important tip: If you plan to offer a chadar or flowers at the Dargah, it is better to purchase them from outside the complex, as prices inside are significantly higher. After completing our visit under the scorching sun, we continued our road journey towards Chittorgarh. In the next part, we will try to reach Chittorgarh and plan to explore the magnificent Chittorgarh Fort the following day. If everything goes well, we are also planning to go camping in Banswara.
