Cheyenne Raiders vs. Pawnee Warriors : The Battle Of Beaver Creek
In 1842, a battle took place between the Cheyenne and Pawnee tribes, in which the Pawnee managed to steal away with the Cheyenne’s most sacred items: the bundle of arrows they believed held a sacred medicine that would grant them victory in combat. For years, the tribe was devastated and demoralized. But then, one of the arrows was recovered, and the Cheyenne believed their medicine had been restored. Then, in the summer of 1852, a group of Cheyenne warriors attempted to attack a village of their hated enemy, the Pawnee. But, what was intended to be a surprise attack quickly turned into a bloody melee, as the Cheyenne themselves were caught off guard, and trapped in an ambush. What happened that day would be one of the most devastating defeats in the history of the proud Cheyenne, and a harbinger of the terrible events to come.
