On a clear Dallas night at the Texas State Fair’s historic Cotton Bowl, the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears continued their march toward greatness, clipping the Melissa Cardinals 35–17 in the state semifinal. With the win, SOC advances to the UIL State Championship for the fifth consecutive season, further cementing one of the most dominant runs in Texas high school football. Powered by a four-touchdown first-half performance from Mikail Trotter, the Golden Bears seized control early and never looked back. Once SOC put its foot on the gas, Melissa had no answer. The offense dictated the tempo, while the defense lived up to its “Death Row” nickname, forcing three interceptionsbetween Isaiah Udom and Jyrion Hampton, with one being a pick 6. Melissa quarterback Brent Halloway showed grit and toughness while raking up 179 passing yards, 127 rushing yards and 2 TDs, he absorbed hit after hit to keep the Cardinals competitive. But turnovers proved costly, and a late injury opened the door for another interception that shifted momentum firmly in SOC’s favor. Now, the Golden Bears turn their focus to history. SOC will face a familiar rival in the State Championship, Richmond Randle, the same team that denied them a title last season.
