Große Töne - Let´s Swing: Thilo Wolf im Porträt

They are numerous, they are loud, and wherever they perform, the stage shakes. For exactly 30 years, the Thilo Wolf Big Band has been thrilling audiences – at the Fürth City Theater and around the world. It's an extraordinary career that the 54-year-old jazz musician began in the Franconian countryside and that led him straight to the Hall of Fame. Even at 15, the son of a druggist knew what he was doing: With complete confidence, he sent his first big band arrangement to Hugo Strasser, who promptly added the piece to his repertoire. At 25, Thilo Wolf, who plays four instruments, founded his big band and landed his own television show, "Swing it," on Bavarian Radio (BR) that same year. From then on, his career skyrocketed. Who is this success-spoiled Thilo Wolf, who doesn't fit the familiar artist stereotypes of the Anglo-American music scene at all? The pop culture of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll? Who is this jazz musician, entrepreneur, and gentleman who seamlessly blends art and commerce? Our author Kerstin Möller has attempted to unravel the phenomenon that is Thilo Wolf.
