It roamed freely across these vast territories, and its natural enemies were the wolf, which was capable of cornering it, and the droughts, which depleted its food supply. However, it began to be hunted indiscriminately, decimating the Native American populations who used it for clothing and food. Now, the American bison is listed in the Red Book of Endangered Species.
