Why The Sanctuary Still Matters : Part 4. Sacrifices on the Altar pointed to Jesus' death.

Sin cannot exist in the presence of God. Therefore, we must confess our sins and be forgiven, removing sin from our life, if we want to go to heaven. The courtyard of the Sanctuary was where the sinner confessed their sin. Sin was then transferred from the sinner to the innocent, sacrificial animal. The animal was then killed - by the sinner - fulfilling the requirement that "without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin" (Hebrews 9:22). Thus, the sinner was forgiven i.e. sin was separated from the sinner. We no longer have to sacrifice animals because Jesus' blood, shed on the cross, fulfills Hebrews 9:22.
