Cleveland's Hulett Ore Unloaders Are Being Scrapped!
Cleveland, Ohio once had four Hulett Iron Ore Unloaders built in 1912 on Whiskey Island. These 880-ton machines revolutionized the time and efficiency of unloading Great Lakes ore boats in the 20th century. The Hulett Iron Ore Unloaders operated for 80 years, and two were scrapped in the year 2000, while the remaining ones were dismantled for future preservation. After 24 years of rusting away, the Port of Cleveland announced earlier this year that they are going to be scrapped.
