1973: BROOKLANDS MOTOR CIRCUIT | Nationwide | Classic BBC Sport | BBC Archive
John Swinfield reports from the dilapidated site of the former Brooklands racing circuit - thought to be the first purpose-built banked motor race circuit in the world - where a group of volunteers called the Brooklands Society is trying to preserve the track after it's having fallen into disuse after the second world war. What was the track like back in its heyday, and what was it like to race on it? Veteran racers Kaye Don and Sydney "Sammy" Davis take a spin around the remaining sections of the track in a 1936 Bugatti, and recall their competition days when they hared around the circuit on Sunbeams at speeds of up to 150 mph. Originally broadcast 11 September, 1973.
