I discovered that Matsumoto Station is truly a transit point for many attractions. There's a shopping street with traditional Japanese architecture near the station itself, and Matsumoto Castle is also nearby; it's illuminated at night in winter, which I really want to see. Narai and Hotaka, not far from Matsumoto, are also highly recommended to include in your itinerary. It only takes 1.5 hours to get from Matsumoto to Kamikochi. My biggest wish this time was to visit the "Mokuri Pond of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route," but unfortunately, I didn't get to!
