Gospel of the Day Sunday, June 14, 2026 Audio Gospel of the day in Italian with commentary by    / @frastefano   Liturgy of the Word today, from the Gospel according to Matthew Glory to you, O Lord Mt 9:36 – 10:8 When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. The names of the twelve apostles are: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite; and Judas Iscariot, who later betrayed him. These are the Twelve whom Jesus sent out, commanding them: "Do not go among the Gentiles, and do not enter any town of the Samaritans; but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give." The Word of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ If we look at the world of commerce, we see one simple thing: everything has a price. Every object is valued, measured, exchanged. It's normal: commerce serves, organizes life, allows people to live. But slowly, almost without realizing it, this way of thinking enters into us too. And then we no longer "sell" just things... but also relationships. How much you give me, how much you give back, how much good you make me feel. Even affection risks becoming an exchange. And, even more profoundly, this can even affect faith. I can begin to experience my relationship with God as a giving-to-get: I pray... for God to give me something. I do good... to receive a reward. As if God also had to "pay" me. But the Gospel breaks this pattern with a liberating word: "Freely you have received, freely give." We haven't bought everything that truly matters in our lives: life, love, forgiveness, the chance to start over. It's all a gift. And so Jesus invites us to live the same way: not as merchants of life, but as people who give. Because the truth is this: when you start giving without expecting anything, you don't lose... you find yourself again. Your heart expands, it's free, it breathes. Today, try to make a gesture of generosity: a kind word, a pardon, a time given without interest. Small, but true. There you will discover a different kind of joy. The joy of those who no longer have to buy love... because they have understood that love is both received and given.
