A Massive Fortress in Kingston, but What Did it Protect Jamaica From?
“Was This Fortress Meant to Defend Kingston… or Something Else?” Thanks for your support Https://PayPal.me/elitejamm After the English invasion of Jamaica in 1655, the island quickly became one of the most valuable territories in the Caribbean. But with that value came danger. Rival European powers began watching closely, and the threat of invasion was constant. To defend the island, a network of coastal fortifications was built across key locations, especially around Kingston Harbour and the former capital, Santiago de la Vega. These forts, including sites like Rockfort, were armed with heavy cannons and strategically placed to guard against enemy fleets. In this video, we explore how Jamaica transformed from a recently captured colony into a heavily defended stronghold, and how these fortifications played a crucial role in protecting the island from further attacks.
