HD gas engines are known for being thirsty, and a lot of people assume this 6.8L is no different — but is it really that bad? Or can the Mini Godzilla surprise us? In this video, I run the truck through my full MPG loop, including highway cruising, rural backroads, and light city driving. The engine feels smooth, responsive, and honestly more refined than most people expect from a base-engine Super Duty. But fuel economy is where the real questions come in. With a shorter stroke than the 7.3L Godzilla, the 6.8L tends to rev a little higher and work a bit harder, which usually hurts MPG. Still, I wanted real data, not assumptions — so that’s exactly what we test today.
