Kenwood TS 700S Vintage 2 meter VHF all mode transceiver
This is the Kenwood TS-700S, a vintage 2 meter VHF all mode ham transceiver. It covers 144 MHz to 148 MHz through the use of a VFO, resulting in a very smooth tuning experience that today's synthesized rigs just can't match. This beautiful radio was sold during the end of the Seventies. It was Kenwood's top-of-the-line VHF radio at the time, and as such it did cost a LOT of dollars at the time (around $3500 in today's money). It was the successor of the TS-700A, which did not have the digital readout like the TS-700S that you can see here. I love the ham radios of this particular era, because they all looked so much better than today's plastic throw-away ham radios. In those days, radios were built like a tank, with a metal alloy front bezel and superb construction all around. For instance, this radio has a mechanical dial which runs like a Swiss clock movement - it even looks like that, with all the brass gears that drive it. Last but not least, the radio also works like a champ, superb modulation and excellent receiver. That well-known age old saying applies here - the LITERALLY don't make them like this any more!
