賀茂別雷神社（上賀茂神社）：Kamowakeikazuchi Jinja Shrine（Kamigamo Jinja Shrine）：京都（Kyoto）

世界遺産にして山城国（京都）一之宮。 賀茂御祖神社（下鴨神社）に祀られる玉依姫命の御子神である賀茂別雷大神（かもわけいかづちのおおかみ）が御祭神。なお、玉依姫は、皇室の祖神である神武天皇の母神でもある。 神社の背後にある神山（こうやま）が御神体山であり、賀茂別雷大神が降臨したとされる。 この神社には歴代の天皇が行幸・奉幣祈願してきたが、臨死体験者の故・木内鶴彦氏によれば、かつてこの神社の辺りには、国津神の初代天王であるスサノオノミコトの王朝があったのであり、アマテラス族がスサノオから日本の土地をお借りする代わりに毎年貢ぎ物を捧げる儀式が京都三大祭の葵祭になったという。 A World Heritage Site and the Ichinomiya (first-ranked shrine) of Yamashiro Province (Kyoto). The enshrined deity is Kamo Wakeikazuchi no Okami, the child of Tamayorihime no Mikoto, who is enshrined at Kamo Mioya Shrine (Shimogamo Shrine). Tamayorihime is also the mother goddess of first Emperor Jimmu, the ancestral deity of the Imperial family. Mount Koyama, behind the shrine, is considered the sacred mountain, and it is believed that Kamo Wakeikazuchi no Okami descended upon it. This shrine has been visited and prayed over by successive emperors, according to late Tsuruhiko Kiuchi, who had a near-death experience, the area around this shrine was once home to the dynasty of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the first heavenly king of the Kunitsukami (earthly gods), and the Aoi Festival, one of Kyoto's three major festivals, originated from a ceremony in which the Amaterasu clan offered tribute annually in exchange for borrowing land in Japan from Susanoo. Heian-kyo(Kyoto) is protected by four animal deities: Genbu(turtle and snake) (Kamigamo Shrine: Kamo Wakeikazuchi no Okami) to the north, Seiryu (blue dragon)(Yasaka Shrine: Susanoo no Mikoto) to the east, Suzaku(red bird) (Jonan-gu Shrine: Kunitokotachi no Mikoto) to the south, and Byakko(white tigar) (Matsuo Taisha Shrine: Oyamakui no Kami) to the north.
