At first, Jade tried to convince herself it was some kind of accident: maybe a stray animal, maybe a story he wasn’t ready to tell. Then came the hike. A quiet trail, a restless wind, and a dog standing in the trees, glowing faintly, watching. It shouldn’t have been there.
