Cruel & Unusual Punishment: Former Inmate Exposes Truth After Women’s Prisons Welcome Men

Eleven years after Jennifer Barela started serving time in prison, California passed SB-132 – legislation that allowed male prisoners to transfer into women’s prisons. Though many formerly and currently incarcerated women understandably fear speaking out about the fallout from this policy, Barela has come forward to share the grim, tough-to-swallow details about what happens when women’s rights no longer exist within a women’s prison.
